Tip To Tail Wellness

Your furry friend can't tell you how they're feeling, which is why we recommend a tip to tail wellness check as often as you see fit! It is very similar to your yearly or bi-yearly physical exams. We believe that these checks are a critical part of preventative health care. It is far easier to prevent disease than it is to treat it.

Spay or Neuter

There are many reasons to consider having your dog or cat spayed or neutered. For many pets it is not only a wise choice for their health and wellness but a good choice for the overall pet community. The sad fact is that there simply are not enough loving homes available to adopt all of the needy animals; every year humane societies, shelters, and dog rescue foundations are forced to humanely euthanize animals.

From a health perspective we recommend the procedure for young kittens and puppies after 5-6 months of age. Having your dog or cat pet spayed prevents pregnancy and the possible complications arising from delivery; it also reduces the possibility of disease in the reproductive system. Following neutering the occurrence of testicular tumors is significantly decreased as are problems with the prostate gland.

Both spaying and neutering will keep your furry friend closer to home greatly reducing the danger of disease, accidental poisoning or traffic fatalities.

Healthy teeth and overall oral health are extremely predictive of your pet's lifespan and general health.

Not unlike humans, dogs and cats require constant care to maintain a healthy mouth and teeth. This can be done by brushing teeth, providing dental chews, and preventive teeth cleaning under general anesthesia.

Dental disease presents itself as broken teeth, periodontal disease and abscesses of the teeth. More specifically in cats, we also need to be aware of tooth resorption. All these conditions are quite painful for your dog or cat; however most of them will still be eating at the time despite the discomfort.

A yearly cleaning of the teeth provides the best prevention of periodontal disease. During this process plaque will be removed from the teeth and underneath the gum line. In case of periodontal disease, fractured teeth, abscesses, or tooth resorption, affected teeth are removed surgically. Please inquire about our dentistry packages!
